About Dan

I take pride in the fact that I have a diverse skill set in the the world of visual storytelling. My experience with professional photography started at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. Although many of the world's great photographers never received a formal education in their craft, I found the atmosphere of a photography school to be a positive influence both on the work I produce and on me as an individual. Through the instruction of teachers, I learned about the essential technical subjects such as composition, lighting and finding the storytelling moments in any event, but anyone who has been to college knows that many of the most valuable lessons are learned outside the classroom. Through total immersion in the culture of photojournalism, I learned to develop my own style of visual storytelling and constantly expand my abilities. Through experimentation and personal projects, I expanded my list of experiences to include set photography, underwater photography and documentary video. The one element that all these experiences have in common is that they all helped me become a better visual storyteller.

Since graduating with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Visual Journalism, I have had the opportunity to photograph a variety of different subjects, from poverty-stricken villages in Africa to gorgeous weddings in Southern California. Because my subjects have been extremely diverse, they have all made me a better photographer.
